The Amice Cape

The amice is a kind of cape made of white linnen, and worn on the Cassock, under the Alb. The amice cape covers the high part of the celebrant's back and shoulders. It is kept in place by two long linnen ribbons, long enough to be crossed twice around the celebrant's torso, and then bound together with a knot, as a cincture.

It's central pannel should have hooks allowing the attachment of a collar (called apparel) made of gold or silver brocade. The celebrant should use the amice cape in very hot climate, even when the Cassock is not worn during the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
