In North Street, York, not far from the Cathedral, was the Church of All Saints, one of many English churches which had restored the historic Catholic sacramental worship.

The rectory of this church was Wedgwood's happy home during his years of study. The anglican rector became his life long friend.

Here was to be found some of the most splendid high church ritual in England. Here Wedgwood entered into the heritage of the Christian centuries.
