Though he knew that he could not be happy as a Priest of the Church of England, he still sought to serve Christ as a Priest. Where, he wandered, could a church be found which would allow him to practice and preach the larger viewpoint, the deeper vision.

Wedgwood was convinced that he must seek that freedom within the churches of the Catholic tradition, that is among those churches which aknowledge Christ's special presence in the world in and through the Sacraments, which emphasize the Apostolic Succession as the thread linking the Church of Christ and the Apostels, with the church of all later centuries.
