Bishop Aumo Artemaa
We note with regret the passing to the higher life of Bishop Aumo Artemaa, an
outstanding contributor to the work of The Liberal Catholic Church. Bishop Göran
Bärlund, Regionary of the Finnish Province writes:
"We hereby inform you that the Rt. Rev. Aumo Artemaa passed away
today, 19 August 2000, at the age of 85. Bishop Aumo was born on 2 August 1915, was
baptised in the LCC on 19 April 1925, ordained to the priesthood on 2 november 1952 and
consecrated to the episcopacy on 6 August 1977 in Helsinki by Bishop Sten von
Krusenstierna. Bishop Aumo was Diocesan Bishop from 11 October 1978 till 26 May 1982 when
he became Regionary Bishop of Finland, a post he fulfilled until his retirement on 7
December 1991. Among other things Bishop Aumo was the Editor of the Finnish LCC magazine
VAPAA KATOLINEN KIRKKO from 1978 to 1994. He was always a devoted and humble worker for
the Church he loved so much. May Light Perpetual shine upon him."

The Liberal Catholic
This is the last issue of The Liberal Catholic to be edited by the Rev. Markus
van Alphen. As Executive Editor, Markus has written some excellent editorials and has
shown real flair in layout and artistic embellishment. He has, moreover, had to carry the
extra burden of being his own business manager also a task well done. I am most
appreciative of his devotion to the Church through the magazine and wish him well in his
approaching marriage to Ms Christine Covelli of the Church of Our Lady & All Angels,
Ojai, United States of America.
The new Editor will be the Rev. Dr. Brian Harding of Canberra,
Australia. Brian is an experienced editor, bringing to the work also his years as a
priest, experience as a journalist, and a broad academic background. We are most fortunate
that he is available at this time.
